Musoppu - Leafy Veggy Green Dal


This is what i learnt from my MIL. First time even i never knew what this name suggest. But 'Musoppu' means 5 type of leafy vegeatble dal, in 'Kannada'. Hope its correct, if any correction let me know :)!!. Even my MIL dont know the exact meaning of its name, Why its called so. But it famous in Bangalore as my owner house anuty used to make it atleast once in a week. Actually i dont know five leafy veggy name, as u get lots of variety of leafy vegetables.
So here i have this dal with 3 type of Indian leafy vegetable i get here - Palak/Spinach, Methi/fenugreek, Dill leaves. Its easy, tasty and a healhty dal.. all in one. I usually make it with Spinach and methi, rarely i get dill leaves, but when u add dill leaves its wonderful because of the nice smell dill leaves have !!


Ingredients

1/2 cup Spianch/Palak leaves
1/2 cup methi(Fenugreek) leaves
1/4 cup Dill leaves
1/2 cup Cooked toor dal
1 medium sized Tomato
1 tbsp Ginger and Garlic
3-4 Green chillies
Salt as per taste


Tempering

1 tbsp Oil
1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
1/4 tsp urad dal(optional)
curry leaves few



Method

1. In a vessel add ginger, garlic, tomato, green chillies, Spinach-methi-dill leaves, 1/4 cup of water, salt and cook it for about 5-10 minutes. When u feel all the vegetables are cooked.
2. Now cool it for a while and grind it to puree.
3. Now again in the same vessel heat up again the grinded puree, now add cooked dal.Add water depending on how much thick or thin want the dal to be. Can add 1 to 1/2 cup of water and adjust the salt. Take one boil.
4. Meanwhile in a small tempering pan add oil, musatrd- when it pops up add urad dal, curry leafs. Add this to the cooked dal. Serve it with hot rice, and some potato fry.. its yummy !!
